NEWEL POST STYLES
Newels are the vertical posts which support the handrail of a staircase. They are usually installed at the bottom, top, and on any landings of a staircase. Half posts are also available, and are often used where a handrail runs into a wall.
Although their primary purpose is structural, newels have long been adorned with decorative trim and designed with different architectural styles. We have seven different styles available, each with various trim and skirting options to suit the architecture of any space.

Craftsman Posts

- Raised panels
- Assemblies include: Craftsman style caps, bases, and decorative applied trim moulding
- Post widths available: 5 x 5 and 6 x 6
- Construction: Hollow with solid hardwood sides & lock-mitred corners
Shaker Posts
- Flat recessed panels
- Assemblies include: Shaker style caps, plain bases, and decorative applied trim moulding
- Post widths available: 4 x 4, 5 x 5, and 6 x 6
- Construction: Hollow with solid hardwood sides & lock-mitred corners
(Only 4x4 Poplar posts have solid construction)
Routered Posts
- Routered panels
- Assemblies include: Routered style caps, Craftsman style bases, and decorative applied trim moulding
- Post widths available: 4 x 4, 5 x 5, and 6 x 6
- Construction: Hollow with solid hardwood sides & lock-mitred corners
(Only 4x4 Poplar posts have solid construction)
Heritage Posts
- Recessed panels trimmed with Victorian mouldings and overlays
- Assemblies include: Heritage style caps, bases, and decorative applied trim moulding
- Post widths available: 5 x 5, and 6 x 6
- Construction: Hollow with solid hardwood sides & lock-mitred corners
Plain Posts
- No panels
- Assemblies include: Routered style caps, Plain bases, and decorative applied trim moulding
- Post widths available: 4 x 4, 5 x 5, and 6 x 6
- Construction: Hollow with solid hardwood sides & lock-mitred corners
(Only 4x4 Poplar posts have solid construction)
Fluted Posts
- Vertical flutes on all four sides
- Assemblies include: Routered style caps, Craftsman style bases, and decorative applied trim moulding
